Classic Heritage Tour – Sri Lanka
The first leg of the journey travels to the old city of Polonnaruwa, where
you'll be in awe of the huge Buddhist statues and columned temples.
Proposed as the 8th Wonder of the World Sigiriya is a must see - an ancient rock
fortress and palace surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens
and reservoirs, and is also famed for its ancient paintings.
The tour continues up into the hills to the cooler Nuwara Eliya. This quaint
hill town was a favored retreat from the hot Colombo metropolis, and as such,
the colonial British replicate the old English style. A visit to a working tea
factory and plantation, followed by nights' stay and tour of the ancient city of
Kandy, completes this part of the tour.
On the way to experiencing Sri Lanka's palm fringed beaches, there is a chance
to visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, followed by a tour of the main sights
of vibrant capital, Colombo, then an hour's drive north will take us to the
glorious beaches of Negombo, where there are two nights in the 5* Jetwing Beach
Hotel, to rest, rejuvenate, and reflect on this fabulous 2 weeks!.
